To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
Opening Prayer: For the Mission of the Church BCP 257
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near:Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
To discover the breadth and beauty of the meaning of proclamation of the good news in our current context.
Opening (10 minutes):
Describe a time in your life in which you witnessed the gospel being proclaimed.
Getting into the text (20 minutes):
Read Luke 10:1-12
Hand out sheets of words and ask someone to read the words aloud. Have everyone choose a word that they believe describes “proclaiming the gospel”. Do this 3x. (create your own list of words that can describe proclaiming the gospel!)
Moving to Action (20 minutes):
What do these 3 words have in common?
What actions do they really describe?
Have the group produce a statement that begins: “The church proclaims the Good News of the Kingdom when it….”
Describe the church at its best (as you see it).
Are there any areas of growth or focus that the church should pay particular attention to in the near future? What are these?
What is one new thing that you can do this week to proclaim the kingdom?
What help do you need to do that?
How do you expect others will see you?
